"Bethelites told they weren’t doing enough, hadn’t reached their potential so about half of them walked out of the talk"
by oppostate inthis was news to me, it's from a year and a half ago,.
from joe emerson at http://www.christianwitnesses.com.
bethelites told they weren’t doing enough, hadn’t reached their potential so about half of them walked out of the talk; efforts made to get names of those who walked out but didn’t get them all.

Is it Time to Declare that The Great Tribulation Has Started ?
by OnTheWayOut ini don't really engage in doctrinal discussions about jw's anymore.
they seem to say some pretty crazy stuff.
but i have read some threads discussing doctrinal changes and how watchtower is really out of ideas and money at the same time.

Perhaps as soon as Warwick is completed and Brooklyn fully sold off...that way the preaching and therewith the costly literature distribution can stop.

Cover of the September 2016 Watchtower.
by jwfacts inthe cover of the 2016 september watchtower has an islander couple preaching.
the brother looks like he may be fijian in a traditional skirt standing in a river, doing a presentation on an apple ipad.
i can't imagine there are many families that can afford an ipad in the pacific islands.
-

That was my first observation to the cover as well. Unrealistic!
What also surprises me to some extent is the push/acceptance for Apple. After all Tim Cook, is the only openly Gay CEO of a Fortune 500 company. You would think that Apple products therefor could not be used by "True Christians" as they may lead to becoming homosexual or be demon-possessed.

My mid-80 year old (45 years a JW) mother has been spoken to by the elders why she continues to use the paper literature, rather than an iPad. Crazy!

JW Broadcasting reeks of desperation
by oldskool inagain, i'm a decade removed from the faith.
i'm catching up now, and can't believe what i'm seeing.. i get that jw leadership faced a dilemma.
there is no intellectual apparatus within the faith.

Beards - September 2016 Watchtower
by Listener inthe issue of whether beards are acceptable or not is addressed in the september 2016 watchtower - well sort of.
it is as clear as mud as to whether they are allowed in places like australia, usa and britain.. 17. what are some factors that may affect whether a brother wears a beard?17 what about the propriety of brothers wearing a beard?
the mosaic law required men to wear a beard.

Interesting how when it comes to wearing a beard, the WT states, in paragraph 17:
Christians are not under the Mosaic Law, nor are they obliged to observe it.
However, the rest of the article states the principles of the Mosaic law towards clothing. For example in paragraph 3: The [Mosaic] Law showed Jehovah’s strong feelings against clothing that does not make clear the distinction between male and female—what has been described in our day as unisex fashion.
Seems double-speak to me. Either you apply the law or not!

Great with these videos, in the past JWs were not even allowed to record the talks, but now we have access to their cult propaganda.
I especially hope that active JWs lurking here, see this religion for what it is. It is NOT a religion that embraces Jesus-like Compassion, Warmth and forgiveness...
This convention video shows that parents should shun their disfellowshipped children to the extreme. A teenage daughter is kicked out of the house by her father and the mother thereafter refuses to answer her calls. It seems that even necessary family business contact is no longer allowed.
If you still doubt this is a destructive cult... -

We will not weigh you down with burdensome lists, as you have the freedom to choose, but here is our list anyway.
Some snippets:The Law showed Jehovah’s strong feelings against clothing that does not make clear the distinction between male and female—what has been described in our day as unisex fashion. (Read Deuteronomy 22:5.) From God’s stated direction about clothing, we clearly see that God is not pleased with styles of dress that feminize men, that make women look like men, or that make it hard to see the difference between men and women.
We do not need detailed lists saying which styles of dress are acceptable and which are objectionable. Rather, we are guided by Scriptural principles that allow room for personal preferences.
The principles that we glean from God’s Word should move us to avoid wearing clothing that is tight-fitting...
...our brothers and sisters appreciate it when we refrain from wearing clothes that are so tight or so loose that they are revealing. We should take seriously our responsibility to avoid clothes that may offend others.
Many stores cater to popular fashions, so it may take more time and effort to find modest skirts, dresses, and blouses or suits and slacks that are not too tight.
How grateful we are that Jehovah does not burden us with detailed lists of regulations about our dress and grooming.
Instead, he has permitted us to exercise our free will and make sensible personal decisions...
